Crossroads Software Inc.'s Collision Report Writing application, which has already been adopted by over 130 cities on over 17,000 computers, has many of the features of the legacy app but has even more enhancements and is even easier to use.
Looks Just Like a
Hard Copy Report
The new app is intuitive to fill out because it looks just like the hard copy report on every page. Change pages just by selecting the tab. Party Info can be duplicated to the Injured/Witness/Passenger page with one click.
All Additional Supplementals
and Forms Available
Standard Templates for writing narratives are included and custom templates can easily be created. The popular auto narrative generator provides a head-start on the narrative by creating a template with the essential information on the face page of the report copied into the narrative (location, conditions, person and vehicle info, and primary collision factor). The narrative page has embedded word processing tools and allows for import of pictures, tables and formulas.
Multiple Ways to
Sketch
The app provides five ways of producing sketches. It can automatically download Bing Map images for the collision location, has a basic sketching tool, the iYETek sketch tool and provides methods for importing “pre-drawn” location sketches and for importing sketches and drawings done in other applications.
Scan Barcodes
Quickly
If the device can read barcodes, you can use it to quickly enter driver, witness, passenger, and vehicle information. This helps to reduce on typos and the time to complete the collision report.
Configurable Drop-Down
Lists
The app has many easily configurable items, including lists of tow companies, ambulance companies, hospitals, insurance companies, special conditions and other drop-down list items. Having pre-configured lists reduces the amount of freeform typing required to complete the report, making it more efficient.
Validation Rules to Ensure
Report Completion
The app includes a validation check to make sure the report is completed, and that information is not conflicting or inaccurate. Reports must be validated before submitting for review so reviewing officers know that the report has a good level of accuracy and completeness before starting to review a report.
Complete Review and
Approval Process
The app has an embedded review process for reports to be reviewed by officers and (if desired) records personnel before approval. Reviewers can drop comment bubbles on reports and request changes or approve. When changes are requested, the system can be configured to email officers of the report status.
Easily Export
Collision Data
Collision data can be exported to a variety of other platforms including RMS, document imaging systems, analytics system, and state patrol databases. Export functions are typically done automatically based on the agency's preferences, saving data entry and ensuring data can flow to all necessary platforms.
Report Verification Rules to
Ensure Accuracy
The report validation check is also included in the review process. If a report does not meet the minimum items required for automatic upload to the state patrol database, then the app will let you know. Reports can still be approved but will not be eligible for electronic upload to the state patrol database.
Software
Licensing
Crossroads provides our system by “site license” so the apps can be installed on as many devices as desired. Software licensing is a one-time cost. Annual support and maintenance costs around $3,000.
Architecture & Compatible Hardware
The Report Writer is a .Net app installed on individual workstations and MDTs. The back-end database format is SQL Server. The app can run in a non-connected mode when connection to the database is not available. The Report Writer application works with Windows workstations, Windows tablets and MDTs. The minimum resolution to run the app is 1024x768. The handheld application works with iPhones and Windows tablets.
Cost
License fees are normally a one-time cost item, and ongoing maintenance and support fees are additional. A Collision Report Writer system for an average-size agency typically runs about $20,000. The application that automatically uploads collision reports to the state patrol (CHP) normally runs about $25,000. Costs do not include hardware.
